Kevin West
Kevin West is News Director of the four Citadel Broadcasting stations in Chattanooga – 107.9 The Duke, Talk Radio 102.3, NewsRadio 1150, and Classic Rock KZ-106. He has won awards from the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalism for investigative reporting, feature reporting, continuing news and best newscast. He doubles as assistant program director ofx WGOW-FM. Kevin was nicknamed "The Stick" in the mid-90's as co-host of the "Smith & West" show at Chattanooga's first FM news/talk radio station. You've seen him as host or panelist on several local television interview programs, including mayoral debates and other political forums. He was a long-time host of "Beyond The Headlines" on WTCI-TV 45 and "Tell Us What You Think" on WRCB Channel 3 Eyewitness News. He’s worked as a Southeastern correspondent for the Associated Press Radio Network and taught broadcast news writing at Southern Adventist University. Kevin is the father of three children and you’ll often see them together at any of several venues around town including Nightfall, Riverbend, BellSouth Park and Finley Stadium. He likes to hike, camp, and travel. Kevin has won awards as a youth league baseball coach and is a regular at the downtown, Hamilton and North River YMCAs.
He is also a Public Affairs officer in the United States Navy Reserve. Kevin has provided media plans for NATO exercises and operations, conducted media training for operatives in the Middle East and been awarded the Joint Services Achievement Medal for exercise Ulchi Focus Lens in the Republic of Korea. He has also been honored for Outstanding Series coverage by the Tennessee Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Kevin worked at radio stations in Ann Arbor and Lansing and ran his own disc jockey/entertainment company before moving to Chattanooga in 1987.
